Course Introduction

A 2-day Level 3 course meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements, for anyone responsible for the safety of infants and children.

Course Overview

This course is designed for anyone working with children under the age of 12.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework requires all early years providers in England to ensure that staff hold a full paediatric first aid certificate on the premises that make up the child-to-adult ratio. Providers should also take into account the number of children, staff and layout of the premises and increase their paediatric first aid provision accordingly to ensure that a paediatric first aider is available to respond to emergencies quickly.

You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including:

  • Assessing an emergency situation,
  • Planning for first aid emergencies
  • Resuscitation
  • Allergies and Anaphylactic shock and use of an EPI pen
  • Minor bleeding including, bruises, grazes and removal of splinters
  • Serious bleeding and shock
  • Burns, scalds and electric shock
  • Choking
  • Suspected fractures
  • Head, neck and back injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses
  • Eye injuries
  • Bites and sting
  • Effects of extreme heat and cold
  • Febrile convulsions, Epilepsy, Asthma, Sickle cell, Diabetes, Meningitis
