First Aid At Work (FAW) 3 day course

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

Intended Audience

The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, specifically designed for those who are appointed to act as a first aider in their workplace. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Course Overview

Over a 3 day period, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including:

  • Assessing an incident
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • CPR
  • Seizures
  • Choking
  • Minor bleeding including grazes and splinter removal
  • Serious Bleeding and Shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Bone, Muscles and joint injuries
  • Spinal and Head Injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock including the use of an Epi pen
  • Heart attack, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes
  • Understanding the role of the first-aider
  • The importance of preventing cross infection
  • The need for recording incidents and actions

 

Qualification overview

This Level 3 certificate is valid for 3 years and is nationally recognised.

The HSE recommend that a three hour annual refresher course is completed and on the third year a two day level three Requalification to maintain this qualification.
