QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

Intended Audience

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Course Overview

During this 1 day course, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including:

 

  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • Unconscious (including seizure)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Choking
  • Minor bleeding including bruises, grazes and splinter removal
  • Serious Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Understanding the role of the first-aider
  • The importance of preventing cross infection
  • The need for recording incidents and actions
  • Use of available equipment;

 

Certificate overview

This Level 3 certificate is valid for 3 years and is nationally recognised.

The HSE recommend that a three-hour annual refresher course is completed and on the third year another one day Emergency First Aid at Work course is completed to maintain this qualification.
