Course Introduction

A 4-hour Basic Life Support course for everyone working in a clinical practice environment, including administration and support staff. The learner does not need to be a clinician.

Course Overview

Successful learners will attain the practical competencies needed to safely use an AED and perform BLS interventions on adults, children and infants in a clinical setting.

  • Conducting a scene survey
  • Conducting a primary survey on an adult, child and infant
  • Identifying when to administer CPR
  • Demonstrating CPR using adult, child and infant manikins
  • Demonstrating safe use of an AED on an adult, child and infant
  • Considerations when administering CPR and using an AED
  • When to place a casualty in the recovery position
  • How to place an adult, child and infant in the recovery position
  • Continually monitoring breathing whilst in the recovery position
  • Demonstrating techniques for choking

This course can be extended, with anaphylaxis management added.

This certificate is valid for 1 year.
